Joanie Fréchette drew up the plans of her new home when she was still working as a designer at Planimage. The homeowner and designer is particularly proud of her project since she had the house built herself and supervised every last detail of the construction.

It took Joanie a few months of research to locate the ideal lot for her future house, but she finally found it. However, the land she purchased presented a few challenges – it had different elevations, was located on a corner and had a deep but narrow surface area. So when Joanie designed her concept she had to consider these constraints as well as construction restrictions imposed by the municipality. The resolutely urban bungalow she created features a garage with a lateral entrance, an abundance of windows many of them horizontal, rich wooden facing and a beautiful contrast between black and white materials. Some of the architectural details are reminiscent of Florida villas, such as the stucco facing; others evoke the Prairies architecture, like a four-sided low pitch roof and a 36-inch overhang rather than the usual 18-inch one.

It’s definitely mission accomplished for this young and talented designer who now enjoys a home that truly reflects her taste!
