To maintain a healthy vegetable garden, use the
companion
plant approach by inserting certain
varieties
of insect repelling plants next to vegetation
that is prone to these unwelcomed guests. For
instance,
use French marigold and chrysanthemum
to protect your tomatoes and beans from certain
parasites. Also, chives, mint, onions, geranium and
basil will keep several insects away when sowed in
your garden.
A mixture of compost, black earth and peat moss is
an excellent blend that can be used for various garden
applications such as vegetable gardens, flower beds,
etc. It will also help enrich the existing soils.
Additionally,
the use of a soluble fertilizer will provide
trace elements which are essential to vegetable
growth when the summer begins.
You must also take into account the amount of sunlight
exposure. Edible plants generally need to develop
under the sun. As for flowers, you can always find
varieties that will adapt to partially shaded areas.
